  • Objectives
    The Honours year program involves a research project and associated report, together with seminars and reading list examinations in selected topics and in the specialised field of the project. Bachelor of Biomedical Science graduates or equivalent who have demonstrated outstanding performance (GPA minimum 5.0) in their second and third level courses may apply for entry into the honours degree program. Final acceptance is dependent upon finding a supervisor and a suitable topic. Graduates from other institutions who meet the entry requirements are welcome to apply for admission to the course.

    About Biomedical Science

    Study the biological aspects of medical science and explore the advanced theoretical and practical concepts associated with areas of biochemical, biological, veterinary, para-medical and other related sciences.

    Students are introduced to biomedical and chemical science concepts, with further study in areas such as microbiology, macromolecules and cell function, molecular biology and biotechnology, analytical science, and pharmacology and toxicology.

    Career Opportunities

    An honours degree provides the opportunity to continue undergraduate studies at a higher level, specialising in a particular area of interest.  An honours degree is a rigorous and scholarly program of further study, which develops a student's ability to generate new knowledge and distil new ideas out of existing knowledge.  Candidates with honours are particularly sought after by employers and can choose from more interesting research and development positions because of their extra skills and proven abilities.  It can also provide a pathway to research higher degree study.  Completing an honours degree involves an additional full-time year of study (or the equivalent) following completion of a bachelor program, or alternatively additional study with a research element included in the final year or years of a bachelor program.


    Program Structure

    To satisfy the requirements of the award, students must complete 48 units of credit.  Recommended study schedules for this program can be obtained from your program administrator.

    Applicants should contact the Head, Chemical & Biomedical Sciences before making their application.  The Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours) program is also available for mid-year entry.  Full-time students complete BMED19008 Biomedical Science (Honours) A and BMED19009 Biomedical Science (Honours) B. Part-time student must complete BMED19014 Biomedical Science Honours P/T A1, BMED19015 Biomedical Science Honours P/T A2, BMED19016 Biomedical Science Honours P/T B1, and BMED19017 Biomedical Science Honours P/T B2.
