Objectives:
Statisticians may be found in just about every area of endeavour. They may be required to design surveys and experiments; collect, process, and analyse data; and interpret the results with the goal of describing and understanding variation in real-world phenomena, from areas as diverse as agriculture, biology, environment, finance and economics, engineering, medicine, public health, psychology, marketing, education, and even in areas within the humanities such as linguistics. This major, available as part of the Bachelor of Science - School of Science and Computing, concentrates on the scientific application of mathematical principles to the collection, analysis, and presentation of numerical data for informed decision making in an environment of uncertainty. You will undertake theoretical and practical units which cover the development and application of statistical methods and probability models, and the use of popular statistical and data analysis packages. Upon completion of this course you will graduate with a Bachelor of Science (Applied Statistics).
Entry Requirements:
TEE Applicable Mathematics. TEE Calculus is desirable. If Introductory Calculus has not been studied, a bridging unit may be required.
