  • Objectives
    The aim of this unique dual degree course is to provide an education in social work that is informed by the range of values specific to religious tradition, and an education in theology that is oriented to the professional values and practice of the social work profession. The course is designed for people who wish to engage in critical reflection on the church's theological tradition and its relationship to social work theory and practice. It allows for the requirements for admission to the Bachelor of Social Work to be met through the completion of two years study of mainly theological curriculum.

    Minimum duration: 4 years full-time or equivalent part-time.

    EFTSL value of units: All 10 cp units in this course have an EFTSL value of 0.125. Units with a cp value of a multiple of 10 have corresponding EFTSL values.

    1. Definitions

    “Major”: 60 cp in prescribed Theology units in one discipline, including at least 10 cp at introductory level and at least 40 cp at advanced level.

    “Minor”: 40 cp in prescribed Theology units in one discipline, including at least 10 cp at introductory level and at least 20 cp at advanced level.

    1. Requirements for Completion of the Pass Degrees

    To qualify for the Pass degrees, a student must complete 320 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings consisting of:

       1. 60 cp Major from Christian Practice Core Units;
       2. 40 cp Minor from Biblical Studies Units including 10cp from the Core Unit;
       3. 40 cp Minor from Christian Thought Core Units;
       4. 10cp from the Theology Core Unit;
       5. 10cp from Philosophy Units;
       6. 120 cp from Social Work Units; and
       7. 40 cp from Social Work Field Placement Units.

    2. Requirements for Completion of the Honours Degree

    To qualify for the Honours degree a student must satisfy the requirements set out in the rules for Honours in the relevant single degree.
