Objectives:
The fashion industry is an exciting place to work. It requires practical skills as well as creative flair and an eye for colour, design, function and form. At GippsTAFE you'll develop your skills through hands on, project based learning. All courses include a high level of interaction with industry. This course is for those who aspire to become assistant designers and patternmakers. You?ll develop a deeper understanding of design, patternmaking and creating design concepts and prototypes. You?ll train under expert staff with up-to-the minute industry experience.
Entry Requirements:
* Interview, folio and appropriate past academic performance * Preference will be given to students who have completed Certificate III in Textiles, Clothing and Footwear.

Course Description:
What you will learn

In this course you will learn how to:

    * Follow defined occupational health and safety policies and procedures
    * Identify fibres and fabrics
    * Draw and interpret a basic sketch
    * Identify fabric performance and handling requirements
    * Identify design process for fashion designs
    * Apply design studio processes
    * Interact and network with fashion industry participants
    * Operate computing technology in a textiles, clothing and footwear workplace
    * Lay up, mark and cut uncomplicated fabrics and lays
    * Modify patterns to create basic styles
    * Prepare and produce sewn garment
    * Develop patterns from block using basic patternmaking principles
    * Draw a trade drawing for fashion design
    * Apply principles of colour theory to fashion design development
    * Assist in the preparation of preliminary design concepts
    * Calculate cost estimates for fashion products
    * Construct stock size block for garment to meet size and fit specifications
    * Create pattern to meet design specifications applying advanced patternmaking techniques
    * Cut fabrics for prototype designs
    * Develop product specifications for fashion designs
    * Grade 2D patterns
    * Create patterns from block to meet customer specifications
    * Sew design prototypes
    * Use electronic fashion design schools
    * Drape fabrics to make patterns.

Qualifications And Recognition
Upon successful completion of this course students will be eligible to receive the Certificate IV in Applied Fashion Design and Technology
