Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) will equip you with relevant and comprehensive skills and knowledge to successfully enter the building and construction industry. Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) covers the technical, managerial and environmental aspects of building projects, and provides students with skills and knowledge required for a successful career in the building industry. The course covers the theory of residential, industrial and commercial construction. Successful completion of this course meets the minimum academic requirements for legislation with the Building Practitioners Board as a Domestic Builder (Unlimited) and Commercial Builder (Unlimited). The course is based at the Gordon’s East Geelong Campus, East Geelong and is delivered by the School of Building and Construction.

All applicants for the Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) must apply through VTAC and complete a Gordon Building Application Form. Part time applicants to study the Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) must fill in a Part time Gordon Building Application Form. For non Year 12 full-time applicants, the Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) requires applicants to be at least 18 years of age and to have been out of full-time study for at least 12 months. There are no minimum tertiary entrance requirements for current Year 12 full-time applicants. You will be expected to have suitable language, literacy, numeracy and communication skills needed to undertake your course. Applicants may be required to attend an information session.

You will also need to complete six units of competency from selected electives. Possible electives will be known prior to enrolment.
 
Duration
Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) is a full-time* two year course. Students can expect approximately 20 hours of class attendance each week. Student intakes are generally in February.

Selection Criteria
If you apply to study the Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) you may be required to attend an interview. At this interview you must demonstrate your interest in building or related fields and also meet any entry requirements listed above.

If there are more applicants than course vacancies selection will be based on responses from the Gordon Building Application Form.
