  • Objectives
    The course aims to provide graduates from other disciplines with an introductory level of education in core IT knowledge and skills. A graduate level component will be accessible from this graduate certificate via credit transfer into the graduate diploma and an advanced extension component via credit transfer to the masters course. Learning outcomes Graduates from these awards will, to a greater or lesser extent according to the award completed, be able to: * design, implement and manage network-based information systems; * understand the strategic role that information technology plays within the collective operation of an enterprise; * be able to play a leading role in ensuring that enterprise-wide information technology facilitates the enterprise's mission; * be able to lead projects in the audit, design, development and pro-active maintenance of an enterprise's information technology systems and services; * have developed technical skills in analysis, design and implementation of information technology with a particular focus on enterprise-wide and web-based systems; * understand the issues and practices relating to the management, quality assurance and strategic planning of such systems; and * have demonstrated professional skills in information gathering, teamwork, project and task management and communication.
  • Entry requirements
    Applicants must normally hold an approved degree or equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institution. However, the Faculty Board may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, admit others who can show evidence of fitness for candidature.

  • Course description
    The Graduate Certificate in Information Technology is an 18-unit program offered by the School of Computer Science, Engineering and Mathematics, within the Faculty of Science and Engineering on a Commonwealth Supported basis.

    The course articulates with the Graduate Diploma in Information Technology and the Master of Information Technology, and the sequentially developed topics allow progression through the three awards.

    Candidates who have completed the graduate certificate are awarded credit towards the graduate diploma.

    To qualify for the Graduate Certificate in Information Technology, a student must complete 18 units with a grade of P or NGP or better in each topic, according to the program of study below.
