Objectives:
The world in which we live has changed, in recent decades a series of profound transformations have occurred and we have become immersed in an increasingly globalized world with constant reform and innovation where the statistical function has become a key element for both public and private sectors. In view of the above it has become necessary to create an academic-professional programme, specialised training of a high level in the field of applied statistics related to the public sector, covering a wide range of topics with respect to the higher scales of the different statistical services of the Public Authorities, providing appropriate analytical tools to reliably undertake research projects in the Applied Statistics field, and preparing the student for the possibility of studying a doctorate in this area. The Masters has been designed taking the following aspects into consideration: 1. The mathematical and economic theoretical base 2. Analysis and data description techniques 3. Econometric models 4. Socio-Economic Statistics elements 5. Official Statistics elements We believe that this training programme responds to personal and professional needs and demands as well as those derived from the market
Practical experience:
Through educational cooperation agreements, paid professional placements are offered to the students for periods of between three and six months in the collaborating entities and companies for which the students are required to pass a selection process. Placements may be carried out in law firms specialised in business law consultancy in companies in Madrid and Barcelona, Secretary’s Office of Santander Central Hispano and Legal Consultancy Departments of Companies.
Entry Requirements:
The Masters is directed at graduates who wish to begin a career in a specialised statistical activity at a level equal to that demanded by the statistical services of the different public bodies and that fit the profile demanded by Market Research companies, Study services of Financial Entities and large companies. The Masters may be studied by graduates, engineers, overseas students who accredit a comparable qualification and professionals with equivalent experience who wish to combine their studies with their professional activity. With and end to achieving the highest possible quality in our teaching, the number of students may not exceed 30, and admission is subject to a selection process whereby the merits of the candidates are evaluated with special emphasis placed on academic history.
Award:
Those students who have successfully passed the teaching period (600 hours.) will receive the Master in Applied Statistics for the Public Sector certificate (Third Cycle Qualification from the University of Alcalá). The obtaining of this qualification could be the equivalent of up to 20 credits of the first year of the “Doctorate in Applied Economics" (Itinerary of Instrumental Techniques" of the University of Alcala). Special mention for Quality (Ministry of Education and Science)

The computer programmes used prepare the participant to carry out data analyst jobs where knowledge of the tools SAS, SPSS, Intelligence Miner, Clementine, e-Views, Demetra, Dimensia and similar programmes is required.

The teaching activity may be complemented with additional content of special or current interest etc. To this effect, conferences, forums and discussions will be held and seminars or workshops organised. These activities are promoted along with other initiatives of the University of Alcalá and the CIFF Foundation.
