  • Objectives
    Produces performers and writers for the commercial music industry. This VET course is offered by WAAPA as a Registered Training Organisation under the Australian Quality Training Framework. The Units of Competence from the nationally accredited Music (CUS01) Industry Training Package are clustered within the course delivery units.
  • Entry requirements
    Students apply directly to the Academy for admission which is based on performance at an audition/interview. Detailed requirements are available from the Academy. To be eligible for this course, students must hold a Certificate IV in Music or equivalent qualification/experience in a relevant stream of study. It is expected that applicants would normally have achieved a level of education equivalent to completion of year 12. Information relating to audition & interview requirements and procedures is available from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.

    This course is available for on-campus study by students with an International student visa.
    This course structure contains information about the units which comprise the course as well as the credit points required to successfully complete it.

    All delivery units are full-year units.

    The Advanced Diploma in Music (Contemporary) course at WAAPA provides students with a total of 29 units from the Music Training Package. Students commence the program at AQF level 5 - Diploma and graduate at AQF level 6 - Advanced Diploma after two years full time study.

    In Year One of the program, students complete 14 units of pre-requisite knowledge from the AQF level 5 - Diploma. In Year Two, students complete an additional 15 units to qualify for the Advanced Diploma of Music.

    These Units of Competency are clustered within the course delivery units of principal study, ensemble-styles and analysis, songwriting-arranging, electronic music, concert practice, history, theory-rhythm studies, music production, aural, keyboard skills, professional practice, media performance and professional management.
