Deakin’s courses are flexible so you can tailor your degree to match your career goals. Off-campus, online or part-time study options give you plenty of options to choose how to structure your course.

Young and innovative, with excellent facilities
Established in the 1970s as one of the new generation of Australian universities, Deakin combines a university's traditional focus on excellent teaching and research with a desire to seek new ways of developing and delivering courses. Deakin provides access to the latest industry-standard facilities such as Deakin’s Motion.Lab at the Melbourne Campus at Burwood and the Geelong Technology Precinct at the Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds.

International focus
Our students come from all over the world and can study on every continent via distance education programs. These programs enable Deakin students to become global citizens and develop a richer cultural perspective.

Metropolitan and regional
Deakin has campuses in Melbourne, Geelong and Warrnambool, providing convenience and accessibility whether you want to study in regional or rural Victoria or in the city.

Big university, small campuses
Deakin is one of Australia's largest universities, with more than 32 000 students, yet the campuses have a strong community feeling and provide a supportive study environment.

Acknowledgement of traditional land owners

Deakin University would like to acknowledge that the present site of the Melbourne Campus at Burwood is located on the land of the Wurundjeri people, the Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds and Geelong Waterfront Campus are located on the land of the Wathaurong people, and the Warrnambool Campus is located on the land of the Gunditjmara people. They belong to these lands, have walked on them for thousands of years, and continue to care for them and nurture them.

Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds

Deakin's Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds is located on the western edge of the historic port city of Geelong, 72 kilometres south west of Melbourne. Geelong is Victoria's largest regional centre with a population of more than 200 000 people.

The Campus features expansive landscaped grounds and extensive sporting facilities. It is the second-largest Campus of the University, with more than 4000 on-campus students. The Campus buildings will be the subject of a significant renovation project commencing in 2008.

Services and facilities include lecture theatres, library, computer laboratories, health care services, a dining room, gymnasium, sports hall, shops and a bank.

In 2008, Deakin University introduced a graduate entry four-year Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery degree, based at the Campus. Its particular emphasis will be on training medical students who are motivated to work in rural and regional areas. Deakin’s distinctive medical program will contribute to the health and wellbeing of Australians by producing doctors who are fully qualified, broadly skilled and ready to pursue careers as generalists or specialists.

Another exciting addition to this Campus is the Geelong Technology Precinct (GTP). This State Government-backed initiative provides research and development capabilities and opportunities for university-industry partnerships and new enterprises in the region. Our courses in engineering are ideally located at this Campus for students to take advantage of these links.

Other areas of study offered at this Campus include Arts, Business and Management, Communication and Media, Engineering, Health and Community Services, Information Technology, Law, Nursing, Psychology, Science and Teaching.

On-campus accommodation is provided for 447 students in a mixed gender and multicultural environment.
