    Professionals working in the field of agricultural technology work to control the growth and harvesting of both animals and crops. This course will provide you with skills in the key areas of agronomic and animal production, combined with business management education. You will develop an understanding of new soil management and crop production technologies along with those of animal science and production. You will take specialist units in broadacre agronomy (soil management and field crop production), integrated pest management, grazing animal production, agricultural supply chain management and agricultural commodity marketing with risk management, plant and animal nutrition, breeding and biotechnology. You will also study agribusiness units in accounting and finance.

    Graduates are highly sought after and gain employment in marketing, management and research roles in agribusiness organisations. They find employment with industries associated with the supply chain of the Agribusiness industry, including consultants, and in marketing organisations.

    This course provides students with agribusiness management and marketing education and training combined with technical education in a number of new technological areas at a more advanced level than the existing three year agribusiness programs. Studentswill develop an understanding of new agronomic technologies along with those of animal science and production. This course will provide an opportunity to meet the need for managers who understand new technologies and are able to apply them within an agribusiness framework. The learning model enables students to gain skills that will enable them to assume leadership roles within the agribusiness sector.

    Course Organisation

    The agricultural technology program consists of broadacre agronomy, agribusiness management, accounting and finance, plant and animal nutrition and reproduction, and new technologies in agriculture, including biotechnology and precision agriculture. Students with a greater than 65 per cent average may elect to complete the Honours Agricultural Technology Stream in fourth year. Refer to the admission into honours degree programs and regulations in the general information section of the handbook.

    Professional Recognition

    Graduates are eligible for membership of the Australian Institute of Agricultural Science (AIAST).
