    This course structure contains information about the units which comprise the course as well as the credit points required to successfully complete it.

    The Bachelor of Communications aims to provide graduates with a range of Communications skills, and to prepare them for work in Communications professions. Students specialise by taking either one or two majors from a choice of:

        Advertising

        Broadcasting

        Creative Services

        Journalism

        Mass Communication

        Media & Cultural Studies

        Public Relations

        Screen Studies
       
        Scriptwriting

    The course studies both theoretical and practical elements of Communications.

     

    The Bachelor of Communications degree is a 24 unit, 360 credit point, three year full-time award which may be studied in part-time mode.

     

    The degree has three main components:

       1.a foundation program of four units and four electives, completed in first year
       2.a Major program consisting of eight units in a specialised area (listed above)
       3.a supplementary program consisting of eight units comprising:
              *
                a second Major from the Bachelor of Communications
                OR
              *
                a Minor study, plus electives;
                OR
              *
                an elective program of eight units.

     

    Whatever pattern students choose:

        *normally no more than ten of the units studied should be at first year level;
        *at least four units must be at third year level;
        *the Screen Studies major is only available to Screen Academy students.


    Year One
    Students must complete the following core units:

    Year Two / Year Three Units
    In the second year, students embark on their Major programs. Major programs consist of 120 credit points worth of study. Students must complete one or two Major programs within the School of Communications & Contemporary Arts.
