  • Objectives
    This course includes specialisations in civil engineering, electrical and electronics engineering and mechanical engineering. Emphasis is placed on learning through project work with students being exposed to professional engineering practice through guest lectures by practicing engineers, site visits and work experience. CDU engineering courses were developed in consultation with industry representatives. Students graduate with a solid foundation of engineering studies as well as the advantage of an education that is directly aligned with industry requirements. CDU engineering graduates are well received into local, interstate or overseas careers. Together with ongoing economic development this creates a strong demand for our engineering graduates.

    Course Structure

    The course consists of 32 coursework units and two work experience units.

    The first year of study introduces basic engineering skills common to all specialisations. In subsequent years students follow a study path specifically developed for their area of specialisation.

    A candidate must successfully complete units totalling 320 credit points as detailed below. Units are valued at 10 credit points unless indicated.

    Plus either:
    CUC106 Design and Innovation: Communicating Technology (recommended for this course) or
    CUC100 Academic Literacies

    Elective units may be selected from Engineering Electives or Engineering units not already completed as part of a specialist stream. A table of suggested units is provided under the recommended study plans.

    Additional Requirements
    Of the total 320 credit points:
    · Not more than 120 credit points may be taken from 100 level units
    · Not more than 40 credit points shall be included with a grade of "PC".

    COURSE CHANGES and TRANSITION arrangements - 2009

    Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Engineering prior to 2009 will note that the Course Structure above indicates a change to the core units.

        * ENG153 is no longer offered and has been recoded to SPH142 Applied Physics

    ENG404 Management for Professionals is no longer offered. Student who have completed ENG404 do not have to complete the new Specialist Elective unit relevant to their chosen Specialisation:

        * ENG413 Integrated Civil Engineering Design (for Civil Engineering)
        * ENG426 Renewable Energy (for Electrical and Electronics Engineering)
        * ENG432 Dynamics of Engineering Systems (for Mechanical Engineering)

    PMO201 is now listed under core units, this does not affect continuing students, as this unit was required within each Specialisations already prior to 2009.

    The following units have undergone unit title changes:
    ENG325 Systems Modelling (from: Signals and Systems)
    ENG432 Dynamics of Engineering Systems (from: Engineering Vibrations)

    Unit Repository – provides general information about each unit including a brief description and the semester and mode offered.
    Timetables – provide detail on the individual class times for units offered internally.  Timetables for the following academic year are available from the middle of December each year.
    Bookshop – if text books have been prescribed, recommended or ordered for units in this course, details are available by unit code through the Casuarina Campus Bookshop.
