    This course provides entry-level training, skills and knowledge to be employed as a
    clerical administrative worker in all industries. Participants will develop basic office skills and
    proceed to a higher level certificate upon completion.

    Use business equipment and resources
    This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to choose equipment and resources to
    complete a variety of tasks under direct supervision and includes operating equipment,
    undertaking routine maintenance and reporting faults to the appropriate person

    Communicate in the workplace
    This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to communicate in the workplace. It
    includes gathering, conveying and receiving information together with completing routine
    written correspondence

    Work effectively in a business environment
    This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to work effectively within a commercial or
    business environment. It includes identifying the rights and responsibilities of employees and
    employers and conducting business in accordance with the organisational goals, values and
    standards

    Process and maintain workplace information
    This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to collect, process, store and maintain
    workplace information systems. It also includes the maintenance of filing and record systems

    Handle mail
    This unit covers receiving and distributing incoming mail, collecting and despatching outgoing
    mail

    Operate a personal computer
    This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to start up a personal computer or
    business computer terminal, correctly navigate the desktop environment and use a range of
    basic computer functions

    Develop keyboard skills
    This unit covers development of basic keyboard skills using touch typing techniques

    Produce simple word processed documents
    This unit covers skills and knowledge required to correctly operate word processing
    applications in the production of workplace documents

    Create and use spreadsheets
    This unit covers creating and using simple spreadsheets and charts through the use of
    spreadsheet software

    Communicate electronically
    This unit covers skills and knowledge required to send, receive and manage electronic mail
    (email), as well as to collaborate online using chat rooms, intranets and instant messaging

    Organise and complete daily work activities
    This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to organise and complete own work
    activities, and obtain feedback on work performance

    Maintain daily financial/business records
    This unit covers the preparation and processing of routine financial documents

    Responding to an advertised job
    This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to produce a resume and a letter of
    application in response to an advertised job

    Interview skills
    This unit covers the skills and knowledge to participate effectively in a job interview

    Recognition of Prior learning (RPL)
    Recognition of prior learning acknowledges the skills and knowledge that students may have
    obtained through work or life experiences is available.

    Credit Transfer
    Students may be eligible for exemptions where previous training has earned a formal
    qualification equal to the required unit.
