  • Objectives
    The Certificates in General Education for Adults (CGEA) courses provide a range of educational opportunities for young people wishing to prepare for further study, improve their employment status and enhance their participation in the community. Students gain a formal credential for studying, reading and writing, mathematics, general education skills and completing a project. The courses also provide various avenues for further study and training in a range of areas. Graduates of the Certificates in General Education for Adults courses can look forward to further study and improved employment prospects. You will be eligible to receive the Certificate II in General Education for Adults on successful completion of all required competencies.
  • Entry requirements
    Certificate II in General Education for Adults applicants must be aged between 16 and 18 years and be disengaged from school. You will be expected to have relevant language, literacy, numeracy and communication skills to achieve the outcomes of this course. Compulsory information sessions are held for prospective students and their parents or guardians. Certificate II in General Education for Adults applicants apply directly to the Youth Access Centre.

    There are a number of Modules / Units of Competency that form the Certificate II in General Education for Adults (Youth Access) . The Modules / Units of Competency and hours listed below are included in the current Gordon course structure and are subject to change.

    Duration
    The Certificate II in General Education for Adults is a full-time one-semester course. Students can expect approximately 16-20 hours of class attendance each week. Student intakes are in Term 1 and Term 3.

    Selection Criteria
    All applicants will be required to attend an interview to determine appropriateness of the course and timing. Where applicants exceed course vacancies a waiting list will be established and applicants will be enrolled in the next intake.

    Pathways
    Links and options exist between various levels of study. Accredited pathways exist enabling students to move between courses within the Gordon and to other higher education institutions.

    Certificate II in General Education for Adults (Youth Access)
            
    VCAL or Year 11 VCE or other Certificate II courses and pre-apprenticeship courses.
     
    Recognition of Prior Learning
    Recognition of prior learning (RPL) may be given for skills and knowledge gained through previous study or other relevant experience.
     
    Gordon Institute Support Services

    The Gordon offers a range of support services to assist prospective students with course, career or fee advice. For enrolled students, the Gordon provides general education support, counselling and careers advisors, disability support services and an Indigenous Education Unit. The Gordon also offers an on-campus Student Residence for students living away from home.
