  • Objectives
    Certificate IV in Aged Care Work will equip you with comprehensive skills and knowledge to enter aged care and community services sectors. Certificate IV in Aged Care Work incorporates class theory and industry fieldwork to enable you to enhance your Certificate III in Aged Care Work or equivalent qualification. This course covers training small groups, developing community resources, assisting with self medication, providing services to an older person with complex needs and providing care support which is responsive to the specific nature of dementia. With relevant industry experience, Certificate IV in Aged Care Work graduates will be equipped for employment as an aged care worker, personal care worker, personal care giver and community care worker. Certificate IV in Community Services (Lifestyle & Leisure) will enable workers to work in residential facilities and/or community agencies and day centers under either professional supervision in defined organisational guidelines or as sole practitioners. These workers may manage or assist in the design, implementation and evaluation of health and leisure for clients in one or more sector areas. Certificate IV in Aged Care Work and Certificate IV in Community Services (Lifestyle and Leisure) are offered as a dual qualification or courses can be studied independently.
  • Entry requirements
    Completion of Certificate III in Aged Care Work or an equivalent qualification is an entry requirement of Certificate IV in Aged Care Work/Certificate IV in Community Services (Lifestyle & Leisure). You must also be currently working in the industry. You will need to complete a Direct Entry Application Form. Attendance is also required at a course information session. You will be expected to have suitable language, literacy, numeracy and communication skills needed to undertake Certificate IV in Aged Care Work/Certificate IV in Community Services (Lifestyle & Leisure). All successful applicants will be required to undertake a police check at their own expense to meet workplace regulatory requirements.

    Duration
    The Certificate IV in Aged Care Work/Certificate IV in Community Services (Lifestyle and Leisure) is a part-time 40 week course. Students can expect approximately 3 hours of class attendance one night each week. Student intakes are generally in March.

    Selection Criteria
    Eligible students will be admitted into Certificate IV in Aged Care Work/Certificate IV in Community Services (Lifestyle & Leisure) in date order of their applications.

    Gordon Institute Support Services
