    Certificate IV in Human Resources and the Diploma of Human Resources will equip you with comprehensive skills and knowledge to enter the human resources field in private and public industry. Human resources teams oversee staff recruitment and welfare. You will need to keep up with any amendments or changes in workplace law and must be well informed about the legal obligations of the organisation in meeting equal opportunity, occupational health and safety, workplace privacy and freedom of information requirements. The Certificate IV in Human Resources is designed to meet the needs of people starting a human resources career and is also perfect for people wishing to remain in administration with enhanced human resource specialities. The Certificate IV in Human Resources will equip you with skills and knowledge to recruit and select personnel, process relevant documentation. The Diploma of Human Resources is designed to develop fundamental skills and knowledge to prepare students to confidently undertake a range of human resource roles. Major areas of study include human resource management, industrial relations and development of a workplace learning environment. Certificate IV in Human Resources graduates may work as payroll clerks, office managers or human resource officers/assistants in a human resource department. The Diploma is specifically for people working in human resources management. It includes a comprehensive set of generic and specific human resource competencies related to managing change, human resource strategic planning, organisational development, employee relations, organisation design, business operations, leadership across organisations and risk management. In addition to Certificate IV career paths, Diploma of Human Resources graduates may choose to work as training officers, staff development officers or in managerial roles requiring knowledge and practical understanding of human resources and employee relations. The courses are based at the Gordon’s City Campus, Fenwick St, Geelong and are delivered by the School of Business and Management. You will be eligible to receive the Certificate IV in Human Resources or the Diploma of Human Resources on successful completion of all required competencies.
  • Entry requirements
    You will need to complete a Direct Entry Application Form. You will be expected to have suitable language, literacy, numeracy and communication skills needed to undertake Certificate IV in Human Resources or the Diploma of Human Resources. Attendance may be required at a course information session or interview.

    There are a number of Modules / Units of Competency that form the Certificate IV in Human Resources . The Modules / Units of Competency and hours listed below are included in the current Gordon course structure and are subject to change.

    Duration
    The Certificate IV in Human Resources or the Diploma of Human Resources can be studied full-time in six months per course or part-time in one year per course.

    Full time students can expect approximately 24 hours of class attendance over four days each week and part-time students can expect a maximum of eight hours (two nights) of class attendance each week.

    Student intakes are generally in February and July.

    Selection Criteria
    If you are interested in studying the Certificate IV in Human Resources or the Diploma of Human Resources you must apply directly to the Gordon Institute.

    You will need to complete a Direct Entry Application Form – this form is available from Course Information.
    If more applications are received than course vacancies offered than applicants will be asked to attend an information session/interview.

    Selection preference will then be based on applicants who can demonstrate an understanding of human resources and a general interest in the field. Prior experience in the industry will also be evaluated.

    Recognition of Prior Learning

    Recognition of prior learning (RPL) may be given for skills and knowledge gained through previous study or other relevant experience. For further information refer to the RPL brochure that can be found under Downloads & Forms.
