  • Objectives
    The Certificate IV in Information Technology (Networking) is the first year of the dual award Diploma of Information Technology (Websites)/ Diloma Information Technology (Networking). All prequisites for the dual Diploma has been built into the Certificate IV qualification. These nationally accredited qualifications will develop core skills in networking and systems support and in particular will develop skills and knowledge in the installation and management of simple networks. They will provide for an individual to be effective in network management either as an independent specialist or as part of a team. Students will also be given the opportunity of experiencing segments of CISCO training which has been embedded and will also complete part of their studies in a simulated business environment.

    Course Outline
    The Certificate IV in Information Technology (Networking) is the first year of the dual award Diploma of Information Technology (Websites)/ Diploma Information Technology (Networking). All prerequisites for the dual Diploma has been built into the Certificate IV qualification.

    Students will also be given the opportunity of experiencing parts of the CISCO training which has been embedded and will also complete part of their studies in a simulated business environment.
    The Certificate IV in Information Technology (Networking) has been combined with all prerequisites for the dual Diploma and has been included in the Certificate IV allowing students to have a broader range of skills and knowledge and to make more informed decisions regarding future career paths.

    Course Structure
    The Certificate IV in Information Technology (Websites/Networking) is a national qualification consisting of 43 competencies. These competencies are clustered to form 9 subjects. Most subjects are delivered over a full year. To qualify for the award, students must successfully complete all of the units of competence. Successful completion of the Certificate IV in Information Technology (Websites/Networking) will allow students to continue to the dual Diploma of Information Technology (Website Development/Networking)

    Subject Descriptions
    Website Fundamentals
    Students will develop a website using a text editor, html and cascading style sheets that validates with WC3 standards for a real client. They will ensure that the website addresses copyright requirements and publish it using commercial packages.

    Programming for Websites
    Students will learn the skills and knowledge to develop and automate dynamic web pages and computer programs for a network using Visual Basic, PHP, Perl and JavaScript.

    System Documentation
    In this subject students will determine and confirm client business expectations and needs to develop and present a feasibility report.

    Operating systems
    Students will learn the skills to Install and use the Windows XP operating system and provide system administration, prepare technical documentation, locate, analyse and diagnose equipment, system and software faults.

    Computer Applications
    Students will use and configure Word, Access and Excel to develop and integrate commercial workplace documents and reports and use them to communicate effectively in the workplace.

    Hardware Fundamentals
    This subject will develop the skills required to Install, configure and operate computer hardware within an IT environment.

    Networking
    Students will develop the skills required to Install software and hardware to Windows based networks including IP addressing, protocols and sub netting

    Network Installation
    Install and configure a Windows Server based network and provide security and administration.

    Website Administration
    Maintaining web servers and compiling traffic and performance reports. Ensuring security and website performance meets acceptable requirements.

    Integrated Project
    Develop and manage an integrated website project
