  • Objectives
    The Gordon’s digital media courses equip you with valuable creative and practical skills and knowledge for interactive screen design, including commercial websites, and many other screen applications. Importantly, all digital media courses provide a firm foundation for future skill development, extended study and also offer a solid career pathway into screen and media industries, digital media art and design. These courses cover a range of media including text, sound, video, photography, graphics and 2D and 3D animation. Digital media authoring, movie making, animation, interactive programming and web design are also covered. Depending on course selection, digital media graduates may follow careers in animation, digital design, digital video design, graphic design, interactive game development, digital media design and development, and website design. The Gordon uses Adobe® course materials focusing on careers in web design, visual and print design and digital video. These course materials correlate directly to specific Adobe® Certified Associate certification objectives. In addition to the official qualifications, students can obtain Adobe® Certified Associate status by successfully passing the Adobe® examination requirements. Testing is offered after completion of the relevant modules. Areas of certification are established by Adobe®. You will be eligible to receive the Certificate IV in Interactive Digital Media on successful completion of all the required competencies. These courses are based at the Gordon’s City Campus, Fenwick St, Geelong.
  • Entry requirements
    If you would like to apply to study the Certificate IV in Interactive Digital Media or the Diploma of Interactive Digital Media you must apply through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC). Please refer to the VTAC Guide (available from most newsagents) for specific application information and extra requirements. * Direct entry applications to study the Certificate IV in Interactive Digital Media or the Diploma of Interactive Digital Media may be received after the VTAC Very Late Application closing date and if there are course places still available. For non-Year 12 (VCE) applicants, the Certificate IV and Diploma requires applicants to be at least 18 years of age and to have been out of full-time study for at least 12 months. There are no minimum tertiary entrance requirements for current Year 12 (VCE) applicants. You will be expected to have suitable language, literacy and numeracy skills needed to undertake the course. Diploma or higher applicants will also be required to attend an interview and present a creative folio*. * If you would like help preparing a folio, a Specialist Course in Folio Preparation will be offered in September.

    Duration
    The Certificate IV in Interactive Digital Media is a one year full time course and is designed as an articulation program into the Diploma of Interactive Media, a full time course extending also for a year.

    Intakes for Certificate IV and Diploma of Interactive Digital Media are generally in February. Students in all programs can expect approximately 20 hours of class attendance each week.

    Selection Criteria
    Applicants will be accepted into the Certificate IV in Interactive Digital Media or the Diploma of Interactive Digital Media on the basis of merit. If there are more applications than course vacancies for any of the courses, preference will be given to applicants who have demonstrated creative, conceptual and technical abilities or who have completed the Certificate III in Multimedia or a similar qualification.

    Links and options exist between various levels of study. Accredited pathways exist enabling students to move between courses within the Gordon and to other higher education institutions.

    Recognition of prior learning (RPL) may be given for skills and knowledge gained through previous study or other relevant experience.
