The Centre for Classics and Archaeology, within the School of Historical Studies, offers a full stream of study in the ancient languages Ancient Greek and Latin, see Latin. Proficiency in both of these languages at the earliest possible stage is highly recommended for those wishing to specialise in the study of the ancient Graeco-Roman world. The ancient languages are thus a fundamental part of the major and the honours programs in Classics and in Classical Studies and Archaeology, see Classical Studies and Archaeology. Both languages are available as streamed programs of study that can be commenced from first/second year. These language streams commence at both beginners and post-VCE levels.
