    Outline of Courses
    Certificate III - This course suits those seeking work at the operational level of bookkeeping, clerical and office administration and those wanting to return to the workforce and upgrade their business skills. The knowledge and skills developed include manual or computerised accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger and the preparation of Business Activity Statement (BAS) and financial statements

    Diploma - Students will develop skills in a broad range of areas of accounting. This newly developed course is highly practical offering graduate’s confidence to enter the workforce with a high standard of accounting skills suited for all industries and organisational size. Current draft legislation when enacted, will enable students with the 2009 Diploma of Accounting to apply for BAS agent registration, once the required level of industry experience is achieved.

    Advanced Diploma - This course provides training for those aiming for a qualification and career in accounting. Graduates will be academically qualified to seek membership of the National Institute of Accountants and to become Tax Agents. The course has been revised to include a number of general business areas of study which will ensure graduates have the breadth of skills to work at all levels in any organisation and will also assist in gaining credits into relevant bachelor degree programs at a university of choice.

    Please note: If you continue to study for a second year, you may be required to attend another campus. (This will depend on student numbers).

    1. Prior studies at Chisholm undertaken with commitment and with no code of conduct infringements
    2. Good written and comprehension skills as demonstrated through the completion of the Application Form
    3. Commitment to the course as demonstrated by the information provided on the Application Form
    4. No more than 2 enrolments in the same course where no units have been passed

    Studying at Chisholm offers you flexibility – options include:
    -Complete the Advanced Diploma in 2 years and then enter the workforce
    -Complete the Advanced Diploma in 2 years and then move to a University course
    -Complete 6 months and gain Certificate III, enter the workforce and then continue study part time in the day, evening or through Flexible Learning
    -Complete 12 months and gain 2 qualifications (Certificate III & Diploma) enter the workforce and when ready, continue your studies at Chisholm or University, either part time or full time.

    The feature of Chisholm’s course is that it has been specially developed, it is unlike any other accounting course offered and it is highly practical. At whichever level you exit, you will have a high level of skills, which means that you have confidence in being able to do the job as soon as you step into employment.

    Learning and Assessment Methodology
    Learning will be undertaken in the classroom combining theory and practical work. Accounting teachers explain and illustrate the concepts through practical exercises and ask for you to practice by completing exercises in class and for homework. Communications and management units are taught through discussions about practical situations. Computer based units are covered by doing the work in class firstly through practice and then application to simulated work situations.
    Assessment is progressive throughout the semester, consisting of smaller tests undertaken in class and case studies completed independently at home. No large examinations are used.

    Bachelor of Commerce (M300)
    Chisholm Advanced Diploma graduates who have the required entry requirements are eligible for up to 8 credits in the Bachelor of Commerce.

    Monash University
    Bachelor of Business and Commerce
    Students who have completed the Advanced Diploma of Accounting with an average of 80% or above in their final year and who have the year 11 Maths or equivalent entry requirement are guaranteed a place in the Bachelor program at the Peninsula campus. Students with 60% - 80% average in their final year and who have the year 11 Maths or equivalent entry requirement will be considered for entry. Admission to the program at Peninsula or Berwick will ensure 8 credits which is equivalent to one year of study.

    Flexible Learning provides you the option to study when and where you wish. You can pace the learning to best suit you and your commitments; however, guidelines to the length of study will be provided as means of keeping you on track. You purchase textbooks and commence studying by working through these guided by your mentor who will be based at a campus most convenient for you. You will be able to participate and access ongoing support through:
    • Contacting or visiting your Mentor
    • Participating in scheduled workshops
    • Participating in existing classes on campus (by arrangement)
    Flexible Learning also means that you have a choice in the way you study. For example, you may find that you would like to attend an on-campus class for a particular unit, or number of units, and then choose to return to the Flexible Learning option. You also have the option of combining on and off campus study.
