  • Course description
    This course applies to workers providing services to clients in relation to alcohol and other drugs issues. It includes counselling, referral, advocacy and education/health promotion services. It requires high level specialist knowledge, skills and competencies especially in regard to laws affecting clients, the range of services available to them and health issues related to alcohol and drug use and misuse. Workers at this level are required to have an understanding of indigenous culture and history and to work with local communities in the provision of services.

    Entrance Requirements
    Successful completion of the Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs Work or Certificate IV in Mental Health Work (non-clinical).

    Selection Criteria
    Applicants will be required to attend an Information Night and interview. Successful applicants will be required to obtain a police check.

    Workplace assessment
    Interviews to assess underpinning knowledge and competence
    Evidence folios collated by students to prove competence
    Written tests in class
    Reports, essays and assignments
    Oral presentations
    Resource folders developed by students
    All the above will be linked to specific elements of competence to be assessed by a qualified workplace trainer and assessor (level 2)
