Course Outline
Chisholm graduates experience a range of career opportunities in the Beauty industry, including employment at the highest level. Chisholm Institute offers flexible client focussed training. The Diploma of Beauty Therapy incorporates Certificate III in Beauty and Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy. Below is a list of all the modules that are required to be completed to receive the Diploma in Beauty Therapy. These subjects are not listed in the order of delivery, timetables will be provided at the time of enrolment. In addition to attendance at the Institute, students are required to complete a 300 hour practical placement component under supervision in the Beauty Industry.
Occupational Health and Safety Standards will be identified and adhered to in all components of this course.

Students will be required to attend lectures at the Institute for 45 hours as well as completing assignment and research work to the equivalent of 18 hours. A practical placement component will enable the student to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in the workplace.

WRBBS201B Provide Manicure/Pedicure
This unit provides the knowledge and skllls to prepare clients and perform basic manicure services. Students will learn the basic anatomy of skin and the function of the lower arms and legs and the effects of treatment products. Lash and brow treatments include tinting, eyelash perming, extensions and brow shaping.

Students will learn to prepare clients and design and apply make-up for day, evening and bridal Product knowledge and selection and client consultation, support the practical applications.
WRRLP1B Apply Safe Working Practices
This unit provides the knowledge and skills to prepare clients and perform a basic pedicure service. Students will also study basic safety and emergency procedures, occupational health and hygiene regulations, first aid and salon cleaning requirements.

This unit provides the knowledge and skills to prepare clients and perform epilation services using strip wax.

This unit provides the knowledge and skills to prepare clients and perform epilation services using hot wax. Students will also study the structure and function of hair. Preparation and application of bleaching treatments is also undertaken in this unit.

WRBCS408A Apply Knowledge of Anatomy & Physiology to Beauty Therapy Treatments
Students will gain knowledge and skills to prepare and assess clients for a facial treatment. This covers skin analysis, skin care products and advice on further treatments. Students will study the nervous system, the skeletal system, the reproductive system and the respiratory system as they apply to Beauty Therapy. Facial, neck and eye massage will be incorporated with the application of specialised treatments.

WRBCS412A Apply Knowledge of Cosmetic Chemistry to Beauty Therapy Treatment
Students will study chemical and enzyme treatments and gain knowledge of skin chemical and the growth, development, ageing and healing of human skin. Facial treatments will include the use of electrical equipment with direct and alternating current. Students will gain awareness of skin cancer, skin disorders, immunology and irritation reactions. Cosmetic chemistry includes the study of chemical concepts, organic chemistry, treatment of red flushed skin, the treatment of seborrhea, and the composition of and reaction to product formulations and emulsions on the skin.
WRBCS407A Develop a Treatment Plan for Beauty Therapy Treatments
Students will gain the knowledge to advise clients on a suitable treatment plan to meet their needs and expectations. In developing the plan, students will analyse client characteristics identifying contraindications/precautions.
WRBCS411A Apply Knowledge of Nutrition to Beauty Therapy Treatments
WRBCS410A Apply Knowledge of Electricity to Beauty Therapy Treatments
This unit covers the role of major nutrients in cell body function, the digestive system and the inter-relationship of dietary factory and their health consequences. Students will study the use and effects of alternating and direct current and low intensity laser in a range of beauty therapy treatments. Such study will also include safe handling procedures with attention to chemical/physical dangers and the requirement for electrical hazard identification and management in the salon.
WRBBS407B Provide Body Treatments
Students will gain skills and knowledge to assess client requirements and prepare and perform body treatments. Students will apply massage techniques, treatment products and incorporate the use of electrical equipment providing after care advice.
WRBSS503B Provide Permanent Epilation
Students will gain skills and knowledge to assess client requirements and prepare clients for epilation treatments. Study will include the application of the patch test, permanent epilation services using the appropriate probe, electrical current and duration/stroke intensity in accordance with the treatment plan and Occupational Health & Hygiene regulations.
WRBSS504B Perform Diathermy Service
Study will include identification of contraindications and assessment of client’s suitability for treatment. Students will expand skills and knowledge gained in permanent epilation to prepare clients and perform diathermy services (e.g. treatment of broken capillaries) and advise on further treatments.

WRBBS511A Apply aromatic plant oil chemistry to beauty treatments
WRBBS512A Blend a range of aromatic plant oils for beauty treatments
Students will study the blending and application of aromatic plant oils and perform aesthetic aromatic massage for beauty therapy treatments.
WRBBS513A Use reflexology relaxation techniques in beauty treatments
Students will plan and apply a range of products and basic reflexology relaxation techniques for beauty treatments.
WRBCS513B Investigate new products and services
Students will research and investigate the latest products and services offered in the beauty industry.

Practical Placement (300 hours)
Students are required to complete industry placement performing competencies for Beauty Therapy units under the guidance of a therapist in a salon/store environment. All tasks will be recorded and will form part of the assessment for the Diploma of Beauty Therapy.
