  • Objectives
    The Certificate IV in Business (Marketing), Diploma of Business (Marketing) and the Advanced Diploma in Business (Marketing) will equip you with comprehensive skills and knowledge to start a career in marketing. Certificate IV in Business (Marketing) is designed to give you an overall introduction to business, with an emphasis on marketing. Not only are the essential marketing competencies covered, but you will also be introduced to a broad range of important business skills. The Diploma of Business (Marketing) is designed to provide you with a sound knowledge of sales, marketing and basic management. This course teaches you to effectively carry out various functions of middle management. The Advanced Diploma of Business (Marketing) provides detailed and specific training in marketing. You study product management, marketing management and sales management roles. Major areas of study include technology, marketing principles, policies and procedures, organisational development including team oriented leadership, information management, communication, business/financial procedures and applications including commercial, contract and marketing law. During your second year of studies you have the opportunity to work with local businesses to prepare their submission for the Geelong Business Excellence Awards.
  • Entry requirements
    Full-time non Year 12 applicants applying through VTAC must be at least 18 and have been out of full time study for at least 12 months. You may also be required to attend an interview.

    The courses can be studied full-time in two years or part-time over a longer period. You will study the Certificate IV in Business (Marketing) in the first year and then the Diploma and Advanced Diploma the following year. Full time students can expect approximately 22 hours of class attendance each week and part-time students can expect a maximum of eight hours (two nights) of class attendance each week. Student intakes are generally in February.

    Selection Criteria
    Preference for acceptance into the Business (Marketing) courses will come into effect if there are more applications than course vacancies. Preference will then be given to current Gordon Institute students who have completed Certificate II in Retail Operations, applicants who have successfully completed VCE and applicants who demonstrate an interest in the marketing industry.

    Links and options exist between various levels of study. Accredited pathways exist enabling students to move between courses within the Gordon and to other higher education institutions.

    Advanced Diploma of Business (Marketing)
    Recognition of Prior Learning
    Recognition of prior learning (RPL) may be given for skills and knowledge gained through previous study or other relevant experience. For further information refer to the RPL brochure that can be found under Downloads & Forms.
