  • Objectives
    These new engineering courses will equip you with comprehensive skills and knowledge to work in steel and metal industries. Each course has units of competencies selected to provide relevant skills in engineering production. The courses may include an introduction to computer use in relation to engineering work, use of hand and power tools, engineering science, fabrication techniques and quality concepts. At the Diploma level the course provides technical skills and knowledge necessary to operate at an advanced trade level in the fields of welding and metal fabrication (heavy). Diploma of Engineering (Advanced Trade) graduates will be well prepared for a range of career options across the metal fabrication industry. Options include employment as an estimator, project manager, foreman, supervisor, welding inspector or welding supervisor.

    Duration
    The Diploma of Engineering (Advanced Trade) is a part-time two-year course. Students will attend class two nights a week – two hours theory and four hours practical (total 6 hours per week). Student intakes are ongoing.

    Selection Criteria
    Diploma of Engineering (Advanced Trade) applicants who satisfy the entrance requirements will be allocated a place when available. A waiting list will be implemented.

    Recognition of Prior Learning

    Recognition of prior learning (RPL) may be given for skills and knowledge gained through previous study or other relevant experience. For further information refer to the RPL brochure that can be found under Downloads & Forms.
     
    Gordon Institute Support Services

    The Gordon offers a range of support services to assist prospective students with course, career or fee advice. For enrolled students, the Gordon provides general education support, counselling and careers advisors, disability support services and an Indigenous Education Unit. The Gordon also offers an on-campus Student Residence for students living away from home.
