Course Outline
Students will study the Diploma of Information Technology (Website Development) concurrently with the Diploma of Information Technology (Networking) allowing successful students to complete both qualifications. The course has been designed to produce graduates with the ability to adapt to the rapidly changing needs of the Information Technology industry and will provide a breadth of knowledge and skills as well as the opportunity for students to specialise and attain a high level of expertise in high level network and website administration and management. The qualification has a strong networking base with a focus on website performance and database integration. While studying the dual award Diploma of Information Technology (Websites)/Diploma of Information Technology (Networking), students will also experience some components and elements of the Cisco program, which is embedded in the course.

Course Structure
The dual Diploma of Information Technology (Website Development/Networking) is a national qualification consisting of approximately thirty competencies. These competencies are clustered to form seven subjects which are delivered over a full year. To qualify for the award, students must successfully complete all of the units of competence. The first year of this qualification is the dual Certificate IV in Information Technology (Websites/Networking) and successful completion of this qualification will allow students to continue to the dual Diploma of Information Technology (Website Development/Networking)
Subject Overview:
Network Design
Students will acquire the skills and knowledge required to produce network architecture design in accordance with client needs and implement quality control in the process.
Intranetwork Installation
This subject focuses on the skills required to design, build, install and configure a server and multi server network with both Linux and Microsoft Server that incorporates both Apache and IIS.
Network Security
This subject deals with the installation and configuration of routers and an internet gateway. Students will develop the skills and knowledge required to build firewalls and security shields and manage network security as a whole.
Network Testing
Performing systems tests and validating the quality and completeness of system design specifications is the focus of this subject along with the skills required to conduct client acceptance tests on applications and other installations.
Advanced Website Techniques
Students will develop the skills and knowledge required to develop a website to meet the business needs and technical requirements of a client using CSS, JavaScript and PHP.
Network Database Techniques
Over the course of a year, students will develop skills to manage a complex project and design a dynamic website with an integrated database on the server using PHP, MYSQL, Ajax and ASP.
IT Planning
This subject focuses on matching the IT needs with the strategic direction of the firm after establishing and maintaining client user liaison. Students will also develop the skills and knowledge required to develop disaster recovery and contingency plans.
