    The Graduate Certificate in Biotechnology Industry is a professional qualification for graduates from various disciplines. Graduates need to demonstrate an understanding of the legal, regulatory, political, commercial and scientific factors influencing biotechnology to be able to apply their skills effectively in this industry sector. The course will provide knowledge and skills related to the commercialisation of biotechnology products or processes. This will enable professionals with experience in other sectors wanting to work in the biotechnology sector to understand the scientific foundations as well as the legal, regulatory, commercial and ethical issues unique to the industry. The Graduate Certificate in Biotechnology Industry is consistent with the Graduate Certificate Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) descriptor in that it: * Covers a wide range of specialised needs following an undergraduate program or relevant prior work, ranging from initial and ongoing professional development to preparation for further postgraduate study. * Reflects a standard appropriate to advanced study and primarily include the acquisition and application of knowledge and skills in a new discipline or professional area, which may also involve extending knowledge and skills already gained in an undergraduate program or relevant prior work. The course aims to produce graduates with fundamental skills and knowledge to: * participate effectively within the broad scope and structures of the biotechnology industry * operate in the biotechnology business environments with an appreciation of the commercial implications of the application of biotechnology techniques * protect the intellectual property that underpins biotechnology products and processes * operate within the financial and regulatory processes associated with the commercialisation of biotechnology products and applications Graduates will be able to work with a high degree of autonomy or within a management team with a high level of responsibility in a biotechnology company or enterprise.
  • Entry requirements
    You will need to complete a Direct Entry Application Form. Candidates may enter the Graduate Certificate in Biotechnology Industry with one or more of the following: * A related Bachelor degree (e.g. science, biotechnology, business, legal management). * A relevant Advanced Diploma or Diploma (e.g. in management, business or science) together with relevant professional experience confirmed through an interview selection process.

    The Graduate Certificate in Biotechnology Industry is a part-time course flexibly delivered electronically over 12 months. It would be expected students would be able to commit to ten hours per week to complete the course work. Student enrolments will be in January or July.

    Selection Criteria
    If there are more applicants who satisfy the entry requirements than places available then preference will be given to applicants with related current employment, or a demonstrated desire to work in the industry.

    Links and options exist between various levels of study. Accredited pathways exist enabling students to move between courses within the Gordon and to other higher education institutions.
