    About the course

CSU’s Graduate Certificate in Mathematics is designed for those persons for whom mathematics was not their major undergraduate study.

This course will supplement the knowledge and skills base of the graduate who has found that their previous mathematical training is now limiting. The course can provide a flexible, tailored program of study to meet the varied need of graduates in fields such as secondary education, technical, research and extension work.

This course provides mathematical training for people who do not have a university background in mathematics. Graduates in other disciplines who find that they need to know and use mathematics in order to progress in their career will find that the course meets their needs. In addition, those graduates working in a technical area who find they need to broaden and deepen their understanding of mathematics in order to deal with the problems they meet in their work will benefit from this course.

This course also provides an opportunity for permanent secondary teachers in another discipline wishing to retrain as secondary mathematics teachers or current secondary mathematics teachers who feel they need to upgrade their mathematics qualifications.

    Professional recognition

The Graduate Certificate in Mathematics has received accreditation from the NSW Department of Education and Training for the retraining of practising secondary teachers from another discipline as secondary mathematics teachers.

If you plan to study the course for this purpose you will need to contact the Course Coordinator to discuss the specific course structure and prerequisite study required by the NSW Department of Education and Training.
