Objectives:
You will learn how to work effectively in the beef industry and will acquire the basic technical skills that will allow you to be employed as a supervised worker in the industry.
Entry Requirements:
This course is for people in rural industries with no expertise but who want to develop basic technical and husbandry skills in the beef production industry.

Course Description:
What you must do to complete the course
 
The course structure below shows what you must do to complete this course.
units/modules are arranged in groups and sometimes also in subgroups.
 
You must complete each group as specified as well as following the course
completion instructions.   If a course contains optional groups there will
statement at the top of the course indicating how many you must do.  At the
top of any group containing optional subgroups there will be a statement
saying how many you must do.
 
The Training Package requirements for RTE20103 Certificate II in
Agriculture specialising in Beef Production are:
 
A total of 17 Units of competency must be completed
-   9 units must be selected from Group A (including the 4 designated
compulsory units)
-   5 additional units must be selected from Group A and/or B
-   3 additional units must be selected from Groups A, B and/or C
 
For a Certificate II in Agriculture specialising in Beef Production at
least 13 of the Units of competency presented for this qualification must
relate to beef production work procedures, activities or contexts. In
addition, at least 13 of the units selected to make up this qualification
must be aligned clearly to Certificate II outcomes. Elective units should
be selected in accordance with local work undertaken and local industry
advice.  

The TAFE NSW Certificate II in Agriculture specialising in Beef Production
contains 5 groups of units.
 
Group 1 contains four mandatory units which directly align to the four
designated compulsory units in Group A in the Certificate II in Agriculture
specialising in Beef Production from the Training Package.
 
Group 2 contains all units addressing the key technical functions that have
been designated for the beef production specialisation at AQF level 2.
These units directly align to the remaining Units of competency in Group A
Training Package. Learners must complete at least five units from Group 2.
 
Group 3 contains other units addressing technical functions that have been
designated for the beef production specialisation at AQF level 2. These
units directly align to the units of competency in Group B in the Training
Learners may complete eight units from Group 3.
 
Group 4 contains units addressing relevant Units of competency at AQF
levels 1, 2 or 3 from the Conservation and Land Management Training
Package (RTD02), the Rural Production Training Package (RTE03), the
Amenity Horticulture Training Package (RTF03) and/or any other endorsed
Training Packages.  Learners may complete a maximum of three units from
this group.  

However learners should remember that to receive the Certificate II in
Agriculture specialising in Beef Production, 17 units of competency must be
completed and at least 13 of the units of competency presented for
this qualification must relate to beef production work procedures,
activities or contexts. In addition, at least 13 of the units selected to
make up this qualification must be aligned clearly to units of competency
with Certificate II outcomes. Elective units should be selected in
accordance with local work undertaken and local industry advice.
 
Groups 1, 2, 3 and 4 contain units that directly align with the respective
units of competency.  To complete these units, learners must be able to
present evidence to prove they can achieve the unit of competency.  The
course completion requirements specify the units that must be completed
for the learner to achieve the qualification.
 
Group 777 is an enrichment group that contains units which allow
students to complete NSWTHAZ201A and/or NSWTHAZ301A (NSW developed chemical
units).
 
The nominal duration of each unit is indicative only and is based on
face-to-face delivery mode with time allocated to evaluate the evidence
presented by the learner.
 
Learner Support
===============
Learners requiring additional/tutorial support should be co-enrolled in the
fee-exempt Learner Support course 9999.  This course provides up to 36
actual hours of support across all AQF levels.

At least 13 elective modules/units must be completed. These may be chosen from groups 2, 3, 4
