Master of Engineering Science

  • Objectives Provides the opportunity for advanced level research in in Electrical, Electronic, Computer, Communication, Civil, Mechanical, and Mechatronic Engineering. Students develop skills in research and gain a qualification which can enable them to pursue further postgraduate studies towards a Doctor of Philosophy.
  • Entry requirements A relevant Bachelor degree in engineering or science.

  • Course description This course is available for on-campus study by students with an International student visa.
    This course structure contains information about the units which comprise the course as well as the credit points required to successfully complete it.

    The course consists of two stages together requiring a minimum of two years of full-time or equivalent part-time study. However, students with a relevant honours degree may proceed directly to Stage 2.

    Stage 1
    Unit          Description                 Points

    This Stage consists of Master Preliminary units and normally students will enrol in a minimum of four such units. The units will be specified by the principal supervisor.
    In any semester of full-time study a student will enrol in:

    In any semester of part-time study a student will enrol in:
    ENS5101    Master Preliminary         30

    Stage 1
    consists of the preparation of a research proposal, the conduct of background research and participation in seminars and conferences. Although formal coursework is not a stipulated part of the award, coursework may be required and will be assigned by the award coordinator on an individual basis.


    Stage 2
    The thesis component of this course is entirely research based and equivalent to 1 year of full-time study. Each semester students nominate if they wish to enrol into research thesis unit: ENS6200 at 50 or 100% of full-time enrolment. Students are required to continue re-enrolling in the thesis component of their study until the thesis is submitted for examination.
