  • Objectives
    The course has been designed to enable students to practise their profession in various exercise settings. A commitment to evidence based ethical practice in exercise prescription and the ability to conduct accurate and meaningful clinical assessments are essential. Students will prescribe appropriate intervention programs and design effective exercise management, adherence and rehabilitation programs.

    Prerequisites 1. Bachelor of Exercise Science or equivalent ; and 2. eligibility for Australian Association for Exercise and Sports Science membership. * An applicant who lacks the formal prerequisite but who has at least one year's experience in a related area of exercise science may apply for special admission.

  • Course description
    The course comprises of:
    Professional Strand

    The professional strand consists of two units of study. It provides the basis for the advanced knowledge and skills needed for the development of ethical and professional counselling and clinical practices.

    Discipline Strand

    This strand consists of four units of study, which provide the underlying knowledge for analysis, prescription and rehabilitation relevant to musculoskeletal, cardio-respiratory and neurological functions, as well as advanced strength and conditioning.

    Clinical Strand

    The clinical strand provides the opportunity for students to complete 240 hours of the required 1,000 hours of supervised clinical experience as part of their enrolment.

    (Note: It will be necessary for students to complete additional professionally supervised fieldwork concurrently to enable the application to AAESS for accreditation as a specialised practitioner).

    EFTSL value of units: All 10 cp units in this course have an EFTSL value of 0.125. Units with a cp value of a multiple of 10 have corresponding EFTSL values.

    1. Requirements for Completion of the Graduate Diploma

    To qualify for the Graduate Diploma, a student must complete:

       1. 80 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
             1. 20 cp from Professional Units;
             2. 40 cp from Discipline Units;
             3. 20 cp from Clinical Units;

          and
       2. 360 hours of additional supervised Clinical Experience.
