  • Course description About the course

    The degree offers a wide range and diversity of subject material as psychologists have studied almost every aspect of human activity. Students learn psychology’s methods of inquiry as well as its discoveries. This Bachelor of Arts with a Psychology major is the first step of a career path in psychology.

    This is a three-year course in which students wishing to complete Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited studies are required to take a 10-subject Psychology major which includes at least four Level 3 subjects. An additional Honours year is available for meritorious students who wish to become registered Psychologists.

    Your course is recognised by industry

    The Bachelor of Arts (Psychology Major) is accredited as a three-year course by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council ( APAC).

    Enrolment restrictions

    Except by permission of the Course Coordinator in cases where credit has been granted, students are required:

        * to take at least three of the first four subjects in their course from major and minor sequences. At least two of these subjects mustbe from major sequences
          and
        * to take at least three of the second four subjects in their course from major and minor sequences. At least two of these subjects must be from major sequences

    Residential schools

    Students studying by distance education have to attend COMPULSORY residential schools for some subjects.

    Distance education students enrolled in the following subjects will be expected to attend compulsory residential schools:

    PSY201, PSY204, PSY301, PSY303, PSY304 and PSY308

    Most of the residential schools are held on the Bathurst Campus.

    Distance education students planning either a major or a minor should consult the Discipline Convenor at the end of their first year of psychology in order to plan their program for the remaining psychology subjects.
    Graduation requirements

    To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 192 points.

    Further study

    On campus students who perform at a sufficiently high level may apply for the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) course at the end of the third year. The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology is identical to the fourth year of the Bachelor of Psychology.

    Students who successfully complete the course are also eligible to apply for accedited fourth-year psychology courses such as the Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) (Honours) or the Postgraduate Diploma of Psychology, which are offered by distance education.
