    The Bachelor of Music (Specialisation) is designed to provide specialist training in music theatre, classical, jazz and contemporary music performance and composition. Students are involved in a comprehensive conservatoire style environment with expectations of high standards of performance, musicianship and scholarship. A rigorous performance schedule in various University, community and professional settings is one of the strengths of this program. A range of adjunct courses give students the opportunity to add other allied skills such as arts and event management and music technology to their study program.

    About Music (Specialisation)

    Creative Music Technologies

    In tandem with skill-based classes in the use of digital audio workstations and associated software that continues throughout the three years of full-time study, the program incorporates the varying and different means by which you can perform your work and/or present your creative ideas without a specific need to be able to play a traditional instrument.

    We also believe in musical traditions as well.  That's why all of our students take courses in how to read and write music notation, learn how to write songs(the old way and the new way), understand the new business practices in music distribution and online product placement - including building and maintaining your won website as part of your set of business tools.

    The Jazz and Popular Music specialisation offers:

        * world-class music training in jazz and popular music;
        * unique combination of modern music styles while maintaining a jazz focus;
        * frequent opportunities to apply your knowledge through our commitment to an incredibly               active performance schedule;
        * industry preparation through our numerous and exciting gigs, concerts, special events, tours        and intensive training projects; and
        * national and international industry and artist connections through our overseas partnerships.

    The Bachelor of Music (Specialisation) is ideal for students considering a career in the music industry as a professional music theatre practitioner, musician, performing artist, composer or educator. Bachelor of Music (Specialisation) graduates are singularly successful in obtaining employment and establishing award winning careers as stage performers, professional musicians and recording artists. Careers in education include primary, secondary and tertiary teaching as well as private studio work.


    Program Structure

    To qualify for the award of Bachelor of Music (Specialisation) students must complete a total of 24 courses, 144 units of credit. The schedule is designed for full-time students who usually enrol in 4 courses per term (24 units of credit). Part-time students should, therefore, modify the schedule to meet their own needs - observing all pre and co-requisite requirements.
